On June 26-28, something historic happened.
Over 350 students, alumni, staff, and families gathered for our first-ever RUF Convention — a nation-wide homecoming built on one foundation:
God’s grace.
RUFCON is the first of its kind in Malaysia! We came from all over the country, representing generations of university Christian Fellowship members and alumni — from current first-years to working adults with babies in their arms. Some are even now full-time ministry workers for the Malaysian church! All of us came to celebrate what God has done over these years— and is still doing — through university CFs in Malaysia.

The weekend was filled with:
We had a great time sharing our CF spirit and history with one another through games, art, history and culture displayed in our RUF Carnival.
IMU CF (International Medical University Christian fellowship) showcasing a bit of their history when they first began building a CF that is grounded in Scripture. They did it partly through having people who were active in cheerleading.

As law students, BAC CF (Brickfield Asia College, PJ Campus Christian Fellowship) brought the law to life with their booth — complete with debt collector cosplay and a student dressed as a zealous Israelite who loves God’s law and would protect it at all costs.
They didn’t just talk about God’s law; they embodied it. True to their name, they keep going BAC to the gospel — where grace meets justice.

Because what better way to build friendships than sun, sand, and slightly chaotic competition? We had fun watching the presidents battle it out on whose CF president is the toughest!
Here are the Presidents of TAR SOLIDD and INTICF battling it out in Sumo Wrestling.
A night of laughter, performances, and celebrating how far each CF has come by His grace!
Students shared vulnerably about the hardships of Christian life and ministry, and how God used staff workers and fellow CFers to bring them back to grace. Raw honesty, joy, and deep encouragement were palpable as we shared struggles, tears, fears, inside jokes and all.
Yi Jia, President of
Taylor’s Christian Fellowship
shared how comparing himself to others led him to doubt his faith and struggle to love. But through Ephesians 4 and 1 John 4, he was confronted by God’s Word, saw the depth of his total depravity, and was assured of God’s undeserved grace—freeing him to love others through the gospel.

An excerpt from his speech:
“I realised the answer to “Yi Jia, do you love God?” will ALWAYS BE NO, unless God changes my heart, the answer to “Will I persevere to the end?” will ALWAYS BE NO, unless God perseveres me.
Guys, any of us serving in our committees, or even if you’re just a member, and you’re struggling in so many ways, realise that our Lord is gracious, turn to his gospel, remember that you’re not defined by your failures, but you’re defined by the blood on the cross.”
Joseph (President of UKM CF) and Christie (alumnus of Monash CF) performing “Servants of the Gospel” as a classical duet.
We were also moved by new CFs like Nottingham SOLIDD (whose whole CF can fit in a Myvi) and UKM CF — a medical campus in a government university with very few Christians.
They gather faithfully each week with a big heart for Jesus and their numbers have been steadily growing. Gala Night reminded us that whether big or small, every CF matters when it clings to Christ.
Older brothers and sisters shared how their CFs were formed and why the gospel is still worth fighting for with intentional intensity. Juniors spoke of how they were struck not just by stories, but by grace — the kind that burns bright and stays lit through every generation.
Theologically trained staff workers led workshops to think critically and biblically about the Malaysian culture we live in — and how to build ministries that last amidst this. These sessions stirred fresh conviction: a ministry that lasts is a ministry built on grace, not gimmicks — on Scripture, not slogans.
From exploring how culture shapes our view of success, to rethinking leadership and relationships, to practical sessions on small group discipleship and evangelism, each elective was crafted to equip CFers not just for today’s campus, but for a lifetime of intentional, gospel-centred and cross-bearing Christianity.
And woven through it all: testimonies of ordinary 16-23 year olds building ministries that last, sustained by an extraordinary God.
“I thought I signed up for a party—but God…..”
I came to RUFCON expecting a vacation but RUFCON has brought me face to face with a humbling truth: I am far more sinful than I ever wanted to admit, and yet far more loved than I ever dared to hope (Ephesians 2:1–5).
I realised that I find it hard to love others like God, because I never truly appreciated God’s love for me. To live under grace is to love like Jesus: Loving, forgiving, and serving even when it hurts—not because I’m better, but because this is His world and His holy people. If I can’t love His people, how will I ever enjoy Him?
RUF has shown me who I would be without them: I’d still be performing for love instead of resting in it, serving with only myself in mind, without joy. Which is why RUF is precious to me—because I’m not the hero—Jesus is. And I’m not alone, because God has given me a family. It is not just another student group—it’s love lived out by university students, alumni, and staff workers.
So I leave RUFCON humbled. Not confident in myself, but resting in Christ. And not alone—but part of a fellowship shaped by grace as I continue this race, hopefully into RUFCON30
We at Reformed University Fellowship Malaysia could not have imagined that we’d have impacted the landscape of university ministry in such a manner. It all began as 6 individual students, convicted by the weight and worth of the gospel, began taking Jesus’ ministry seriously in their universities.
By grace, RUF Malaysia still carries that same conviction- that all ministry done in the name of Jesus Christ in Malaysian universities would be done in a manner pleasing to Him.
We’re writing to say: thank you. Your monetary support, prayers, and belief in this mission made this convention possible. It was more than a gathering — it was a glimpse of what the gospel can do across time, across lives.
RUFCON25 may be over, but our mission to proclaim Christ in universities will always continue. Please be praying and supporting us as we strive to equip the next generation of Christians in universities to build ministries that last and are loyal to Jesus.
If you would like to partner with us financially, please consider donating here. Your donations will go towards the training, discipleship, and evangelism of students in universities.
