Hi, I’m Kennard Lam, I’m from UCSI, I live in Cheras. I’m studying Psychology in my third year now. I used to think that Christian Fellowhsip is just about the Fellowship – about making friends. When I was in university, when i first came to college, I just wanted to find some Christian friends because I had a lot of non-Christian friends but I just wanted to meet some genuine and like-minded Christians. And when I first went to CF, I did get that. I feel like everyone was there for more or less the same reason. But it was just that la. When a Christian Fellowship doesn’t push you to grow in holiness, to grow in maturity – it leaves you very vulnerable in university. It leaves all of us Christians very vulnerable to the temptations of the world. It could be your studies, it could be your girlfriend, a club, so many many events. And when the Christian Fellowship doesn’t train you to hold to this truth, to hold to Christ, to remind you of reality, then we will very easily struggle in our faith or worse still, fall away.

For RUF, their goal was to train Christians in godliness. To help them to learn the Word, God’s Word, to learn the truth. It was in an RUF CF, in RUF UCSI that I found out the importance of God’s Word. I realised in RUF UCSI that these 3-5 years of our lives in university is our best chance and opportunity we have to preach the gospel to all our friends. You won’t have much opportunity when you work. After your graduate, you won’t have that much exposure to so many clubs, so many class, to so many different people around your age that are also thinking about life.

I think another sad reality that a lot of CFs aren’t aware of is that for many Christians who fall away, who leave Christianity – they fall away during their time in university.

Not gonna lie, when I first got into college, the temptations were really great. Without a solid Christian Fellowship, it will be very tough for any Christian to stand firm in the faith if you’re not equipped in the truth in God’s Word, if you don’t know your purpose as a human being created in the image of God.

The thing is that sometimes we might think that once we kind of understand the gospel, that’s it. We’re fine. But the sad reality is that we are in a world that is against God. And if we think that just going to CF or church is enough, that’s like just 2 days of your week? Then the rest of the days, the rest of your life, you’re just constantly being bombarded by the influence of the world. And I’ll just say in my experience, very quickly you’ll forget who you are, you’ll forget who you were made to be, you’ll forget your purpose.
